The seventh month of the year is about to wrap up, and so it’s time to update our K-drama watch list. The month of July blessed us with a lot of exciting new premieres, and the upcoming month of August promises another enticing line-up that are bound to change our priority watch list.

From swoon-worthy romances to mind-blowing mystery thrillers, here are 7 Hottest Korean Dramas Coming Out In August 2021.

1. Police University.

The series revolves around a former elite detective who used to work in various divisions as a violent crimes detective and as a member of the cyber investigation team. After more than 20 years in the Korean police force, he decided to retire and landed a job as a professor at a Police University. But a chaotic investigation arises when he teams-up with his two students, a genius hacker who joins the university as a first-year student, and an intelligent and righteous woman who dream of becoming a police officer.

Police University will premiere on August 9, and will be available for worldwide streaming on Viki.

2. Hometown Cha Cha Cha.


A romantic-comedy that tells the love story of a perfectionist and ambitious dentist who ends up moving to the seaside village of Gongjin after a life turning event. There, she decides to start her clinic, and meets a man known as Mr. Hong around the village, who is unemployed but always seems very busy helping other people. As she takes chance for a new life in a laid-back yet promising neighborhood, a love story begins to unfold.

The highly anticipated series is scheduled to premiere on tvN on August 28, and will also be available for streaming on Netflix.

3. Lovers Of The Red Sky.

The fantasy romance historical drama is about a female painter in Joseon dynasty who was born blind but miraculously managed to acquire a sense of vision. With genius-like painting talent, she became the first woman in Joseon Korea to be accepted in the Korean Royal Academy of Painting. One day, she meets an astrologer whose fate is the polar opposite of her own. Although he was born sighted, he lost his vision in a childhood accident. But despite the fact that he is blind, she falls for him and is determined to win his heart.

Lovers of the Red Sky is scheduled to premiere on SBS TV on August 23, and will air every Monday and Tuesday, taking the slot of Racket Boys.

4. The Tragedy of One.

The mystery-thriller revolves around a famous and trusted television anchor who uses any means to get what he desires. His life though, turned upside down when his family is tangled up in a tragic incident, which eventually leads to another tragedy.

The drama is scheduled to premiere on tvN on August 4, and will air every Wednesday and Thursday.

5. Please Check The Event.

The drama depicts the emotional journey that unfolds when two former lovers pretend to be together to head on a couple’s trip they won at an event. The story follows a woman with a confident and youthful charm who works as a botanical garden coordinator and finds herself struggling after breaking up with her boyfriend.

The coming-of-age drama will premiere on MBC on Aug 14, 2021.

6. The Second Husband.

This passionate romance drama revolves around a diligent and positive girl and her family surrounding a confectionery company. She underwent an unfortunate childhood, but due to her strong and positive personality, she rises up. But when she unjustly loses her family due to a tragedy born out of an unstoppable desire, she pledges revenge in the mixed fate and love.

The daily drama is scheduled to premiere on MBC on August 9, 2021.

7. Fly High, Butterfly.

The series tells the story of the interns and stylists at a hair salon who work hard in arduous conditions, dealing with all kind of clients. It focuses on a young woman named Gi Bbeum, an assistant intern in the salon who is going through a tough time dealing with their clients.

The drama is set to premiere on August 23, and will air every Monday and Tuesday on JTBC.
